The initiative is part of the state-wide Goa Deposit Refund Scheme, aimed at reducing litter and encouraging recycling. Under the scheme, consumers pay a refundable deposit of ₹2 to ₹10 on non-biodegradable packaging, which can be reclaimed by returning used items through these machines.
