Goa Secures Five New GI Tags, Boosting Protection of Indigenous Crops

GI recognition will empower farmers and strengthen Swayampurna Goa Mission :CM Goa has achieved a major milestone in safeguarding its agricultural heritage with the registration of five new Geographical Indication tags, a move expected to benefit farmers and preserve traditional knowledge. The newly registered GI products include Taleigao Vayingim , Goa Hilario Mango, Goa Korgut Rice, Goa Kaju, and Goa Mussarad Mango. Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant described the achievement as a proud moment for the State, stating that the GI tags will empower farmers, protect indigenous varieties, enhance market recognition, and contribute to rural livelihoods while strengthening the Swayampurna Goa Mission.
