Joaquim Fernandes Questions Department’s Inaction as Traditional Fishermen Face Threat GRE member Joaquim Fernandes has strongly criticised the fisheries department for its failure to act against blatant violations by trawler owners at the onset of the new fishing season. He alleged that trawlers were openly flouting the 5 km coastal fishing ban near Velsao, threatening the livelihood of traditional fishermen. “If trawlers fish in our zones, how will traditional fishermen survive for the next nine months?” he questioned.
