Tanavade Supports Bill to Prevent Cheaper Tobacco After Cess

Rajya Sabha MP says higher duties vital to protect youth and public health Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sadanand Shet Tanavade supported the *Central Excise Amendment Bill, 2025*, stating it is essential to ensure tobacco products do not become cheaper after the GST Compensation Cess ends. He said maintaining higher duties will deter youth from accessing harmful products and safeguard public health. Tanavade added that taxes collected from tobacco help strengthen the health sector through initiatives like new AIIMS, medical colleges and Ayushman Bharat.
