Loliem Resident Balkrishna Ayya’s Water Mission Featured in ‘Mann Ki Baat’

Retired sculptor’s grassroots effort to end water crisis in Canacona gains national recognition Balkrishna Ayya from Loliem, Canacona, who independently helped resolve a long-standing drinking water crisis in Hundolle-Madditalap, has been featured in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Mann Ki Baat,” bringing national attention to his grassroots initiative. The retired sculptor and teacher constructed a step-well, installed a pump, and laid pipelines to supply clean water to around 20–25 households in the hamlet. His effort significantly improved daily living conditions in the village. Expressing gratitude over the recognition, Ayya said he feels deeply honoured and emotional that years of community service have been acknowledged at the national level.
