MLA alleges embankments failed, calling it a waste of crores. Aldona Congress MLA Adv. Carlos Alvares Ferreira has criticised the Goa government over the embankment works along the Mapusa River, alleging that crores of rupees were spent without preventing flooding in agricultural fields between Guirim, Mapusa, Bastora, and Paliem.Ferreira claimed the project reflects poor planning and questioned the competence of contractors, alleging that changes to the landscape during highway construction disrupted the natural flow of water. He said he had repeatedly raised the issue in the Assembly and warned that the embankments would not solve the flooding problem. Calling it a “system failure,” the MLA said farmers continue to bear heavy losses, with many eventually giving up agriculture due to recurring floods.
