Revenue Department Withdraws Letter on Urban Area Notification for Goa Villages

Move comes amid public and political opposition to proposal affecting 56 villages. The Goa Revenue Department has withdrawn its earlier communication to the Directorate of Panchayats regarding the proposed notification of urban areas in the state, following growing public and political opposition. In a letter dated June 27, 2026, the department stated that its May 13 communication stands withdrawn with immediate effect. The earlier letter had directed the Directorate of Panchayats to seek comments from villages on a proposal to notify 56 villages as urban areas, prompting widespread concern and debate across the state.
